Brisbane Goes the Extra Mile
Congratulations to all our Extra Miles who joined us on August 7th, 2010 for the 2nd Brisbane 50km endurance walk. The day was been a wonderful success - with 137 walkers starting at 7am at Teralba Park in Mitchelton under clear blue skies with the temperature reaching 22c.|

And the winner is...Congratulations to Dave Daniell who crossed the finish line at 1.08pm after running the event in 6hrs and 8mins. Dave explained that he started the event as a walker with his team mates (Nambour Baptists), but found the going a bit slow so decided to run. And run he did - having not trained for the event, Dave relied upon his surfing fitness to get him through to the FINISH.And after Dave crossed the line, he proceeded to pitch in and help us put the final touches on the FINISH putting up banners and tents. Dave - you're a star! |

Amazing Mum of 5We welcomed our 2nd place getter, Netania Cooper across the line at 1.43pm after 6hrs and 43mins on the 50km trail.Netania was greeted by 2 of her 5 children (both of whom are accomplished athletes in their own rites). Netania told us that she ran and walked the course but did not have alot of opportunity to train for the event. As a regular walker, she is often clocked walking at the blistering pace of 8kms/hour. Congratulations Netania - you are inspirational! |

Anyone seen my Shoes? One unfortunate walker only found out on arrival at the START that she has forgotten to pack her walking shoes. After trialling a pair of loaned shoes, this determined individual decided to ditch the shoes and walk the entire 50kms .... in her socks! We were amazed to see this intrepid Nambour Baptist team member resting in her 3 pairs of socks and revelling in the fact that she endured to reach the FINISH. What a champ! |
