Family Walk
Families - you will be starting with all the walkers at 7am from Jells Park - you will either:
- complete 15kms - walk to Pitstop 1 (Bayswater Oval) - then exit the event
- complete 24kms - walk to Pitstop 2 (Doongalla Station) - then exit the event
- complete 38kms - walk to Pitstop 3 (Ferntree Gully) - then exit the event
- complete the full 50km course
Sections 1 and 2 are pram friendly and mostly flat (section 1
has a small hill to traverse just before the
Burwood Highway crossing and is on gravel surface, and section 2 has a bush trail segment
with a gentle climb up into Doongalla Station). Sections 3 and 4 are more challenging and are not pram friendly (we do not suggest young ones tackle this section unless you consider them capable and fit).
A special "Family Only Pitstop" will be available for use by families at Wantirna Oval - your little ones can have a rest here and you can prepare them for the next 7.5kms.
After completing your family walk, you are welcome to travel up
to Ferny Creek and spend the afternoon with us and other
families picnicking in the beautiful Dandenong ranges. Electric
BBQ's are available along with a huge kids playground, oval
(with cricket pitch), hall & kitchen (with fridge, stove & oven)
and clean public toilets. A walker's BBQ will be operating, and all snags are free to walkers who have participated in the event (food can also be bought from other food sellers). Why not join in
welcoming home the walkers as they complete their 50kms making
their finish even more memorable?
Note: most walkers will finish their walk after dark, so it's a fun atmosphere, but can get cold - so bring some warm clothing for the kids.
Want to complete the 50kms?
Parents - why not drop your kids with friends or relatives at either Pitstop 1, 2 or 3 and then go on to complete the full 50kms course? That way your kids can become part of your support crew and be there at the finish to welcome you home - the choice is yours.
Please note: parents who do elect to continue on, will need to abide by standard rules about team sizes for the final sections of the event. That is, your walking team must comprise at least 2 members (you and another) for safety reasons.
