Belgrave Heights Christian School is once again launching their own version of
'Go the Extra Mile'. Students will be
asked to up their activity and walk a total of 50kms during the month of May
and get themselves sponsored for each km. Students can complete their 50kms
during school lunchtimes or at home with their parents supervising them. At
the end of the month they bring in the donations and they can celebrate
having done their bit for breaking the poverty cycle while getting fitter in
the process. Kids helping kids - now that is something to smile about!

Through the kindness of our sponsors we are delighted to be able to offer fundraising prizes as recognition of all your hard work. The top 3 individual fundraisers will be eligible for prizes.
We know how hard it is to raise funds - we've been there.

The Joys of Shopping
What about organising a shopping tour as a fundraiser? Sounds pretty simple - and it is. The general idea is to get a bunch of bargain hunters together and bus them around to factory outlets all around Melbourne - you receive up to 10% commission for all sales made on the day - check out how it works here.

Stretching.
It's important to keep your muscles supple while doing any exercising to avoid injury. Do some light stretching before you head out on your walk, then about 1km into the walk - stop and do some more thorough stretching - at this time, your muscles will have warmed up. Whenever you feel your muscles tightening on the walk - or you feel joint pain, stop and take a few minutes to stretch out the muscles in the paining area. You should work on hamstrings, calves, quads, hip flexors, glutes and ITBs (run down outside of your thighs). Never over stretch or bounce - gentle stretching is the key. You can read more here.

These children from a bridge of Hope centre in Nepal are learning how to brush their teeth with their brand new toothbrushes!
They received the tooth brushes and toothpaste when a GFA medical team visited their village. Check out the Photoshow and see how a medical team works with the local community of Dalits to help solve medical issues that plague this impoverished people group - children and adults alike.

Did you know?
Did you know that every hour, two Dalits are assaulted, three Dalit women raped, two Dalits murdered and two Dalit houses burned (according to the Human Rights Education Movement of India), yet only one percent of those who commit crimes against Dalits are ever convicted. Even simple Dalit assertions of their lawful rights and
privileges have touched off hate crimes against them by members of
the upper castes. These have included rape, harassment, violence and
murder.

Do you know a masseuse? Physio? Osteopath? We are looking for
folks who can help pamper you on event day. If you know someone who can
help please encourage them to contact us.
Sydney, Adelaide and Perth Bushwalkers - know
someone who could help us get a walk started in those cities? We'd love
to hear from them as we look to extend Go the Extra Mile into other
capital cities.
We walk to change the appalling situation that traps the Dalit children
of India in a lifetime of extreme poverty. Through the work of the
Bridge of Hope centres, the poverty cycle is being broken - the gospel message of Jesus
is being preached, dignity is being restored and lives are being
transformed - forever. Remember that every dollar you raise is used to
bring tangible benefits to countless children's lives! |
